Where were you….on December 12, 2000, when the United States Supreme Court released its decision in Bush v. Gore?

I was living in the Phi Sigma Kappa house on the campus of the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville.

On the way to class, or after coming back, we’d just spent the last month crowded around the big screen TV in the main hall.

This was a Southern country club Republican fraternity house, but I don’t recall real animus at the time.

It had all the vibe of a sportsball game which had gone into overtime or extra innings.

Now the ref had their head under a hood zoomed in to watch the replay and come back with a call.

The judges decided to order Florida to stop counting the votes.

Stop the count!

Where and when would we hear that again?

The Brooks Brother riot to stop the Miami-Dade recount was a preview of Jan 6th.
