A few weeks ago, I chaperoned a 4th grade class to Cabrillo National Monument.
It was a reminder of traumas that people have endured.
Our recency bias tends to over-index the ones we remember.
Shock and Awe
Traumatized people can both over and under-react.
We’re still reeling from the horrifying attacks and on-going tragic consequences of Oct. 7th.
Before that, I have personal lived experience as an American who was also a “military age male” during the horrifying attacks of Sept. 11th and the on-going tragic consequences.
The objective of surprise attacks is to terrify.
Provoking an uncontrolled emotional reaction is a key result.
If Hawaii fell, what then?
Before Sept. 11th, there was Dec. 7th.
The Silent Generation was there, gathering buckets of sand prepping for the firebombs, covering airports with camouflage, and reassuring children that everything will be okay.
