Libraries Make Us Great

My mom is visiting, and we walked the kids down the street to renew my library card and also get a couple for them.

I love libraries. The kids got to hear old stories about me churning through dozens of books during summer vacation.

Just walking in the vibe felt…good.

We have a good country, it’s not perfect, and we should always be trying to improve it.

Libraries and librarians have always played a role as a bulwark.

These federated institutions stand up against the anti-normie vibes from people intent on “flooding the zone with shit”. This imperfectly great country was built on espoused ideals which were paid lip service to, depending on who you were or weren’t, but at least the ideals were there, if only aspirationally.

Despite the flaws, we have some valuable ideals, principles, and institutions in our neighborhoods.

Readers of all ages can get lost in dreams, find hope in aspirations, and let their imagination run wild in a library.

Libraries make our country great and are a symbol of those very ideals we hold to be self-evident.

Get a library card today and pick up your “I Read Banned Books” sticker, because that is what summer vacation is for.
