Southern Apocalypse
My weird origin story is I went to high school and college in Southern Appalachia.
When I was there, I studied Latin and attended weekly Bible study for years.
It was a character-building experience that turned me into a history nerd who actually read about the End Times.
Soooo, that being said, after meditating on the subject, I believe there are 3 keys to surviving the Zombie Apocalypse:
- elevation (vantage point)
- easy access to potable water
- arable land for subsistence farming
Southern Appalachia happens to offer all of those traits.
As sea temperatures rise, the tropical storms and hurricanes coming off the Atlantic and Gulf Coast will be even bigger and stronger.
I don’t make the rules 🤷🏻♂️
Catastrophic storm surges are bad news if your municipal tax base was built on a swamp (sorry, Gators!)
Meanwhile, Southern Appalachia has advantage #1.
The Appalachian Mountains act as a “speed bump” and result in the severe weather events dropping more than enough precipitation.
The red clay soil can’t absorb it all, so rain catchment should provide an alternative for any polluted ground water.
That is advantage #2.
Renewable energy is supplied via nuclear facilities at Oak Ridge and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Hill people gonna live in them thar hills that the Cherokee were living on for 12,000 years.
Advantage #3.
